Samsung Foundry, the world's second-largest chip manufacturer, has announced its plans to produce semiconductor chips with a size of 2nm by 2025 and 1.4nm by 2027. These details were shared during the seventh Samsung Foundry Forum 2023 event, where the company presented its process technology roadmap.

Additionally, at the event, the South Korean company provided further information about its 2nm chip fabrication technology. Samsung Foundry stated that its 2nm chips will be 25% more power-efficient compared to the 3nm chips. The SF2 (Samsung Foundry 2nm) technology is expected to be available to clients in 2025. This new fabrication technology offers a 25% increase in power efficiency while maintaining the same clock speeds and complexity as its previous generation 3nm chips. Furthermore, it boasts a 12% improvement in performance and a 5% reduction in die area compared to the earlier 3nm chips that Samsung began producing earlier this year.

To enhance the appeal of the 2nm chips, Samsung Foundry intends to enable integration of this technology into various chip designs, including LPDDR5X, HBM3, PCIe Gen 6, and 112G SerDes
